Mission Statement
The mission of the Center for Research on Sexuality and Sexual Health (SASH) is to reduce disparities and inequities related to sexuality, gender, and sexual health. We accomplish this mission by conducting multidisciplinary, community-engaged, and collaborative research, training, and health promotion focusing on diverse priority populations.
History
The Center for Research on Sexuality and Sexual Health (SASH) was officially recognized as a California State University research center in 2015. SASH was established by Drs. Heather Corliss and Eric Walsh-Buhi as a means to foster and strengthen collaborations between researchers, students, practitioners, clinicians, community members, and other individuals engaged in efforts to achieve health equity related to sexuality, gender and sexual health. When Drs. Corliss and Walsh-Buhi joined the SDSU School of Public Health in 2013 and 2014, respectively, numerous students reached out to them to seek mentorship on research related sexual health and LGBTQ+ health. SASH was established, in part, to address this student need. Since then, SASH has supported many junior faculty, postdoctoral scholars, doctoral students, masters students, undergraduate students, and community organizations in their research and health promotion efforts.
